Regularly Voted the 'prettiest village in Andalucía' by the Spanish tourism authority, Frigiliana’s patterned cobbled streets are maintained as traffic free (although convenience access is permitted) contributing enormously to the tranquillity, atmosphere of this traditional historic Moorish village.
Frigiliana important from a historical viewpoint. El Fuerte, the hill that climbs above the village, was the scene of the final bloody defeat of the Moors of La Axarquía in their 1569 rebellion. The hill is topped by scanty remains of a ruined fort from which some of the Moors reputedly threw themselves rather than be killed or captured by the Spanish. It is said that bones and rusted weapons dating from this encounter still lie among the scrub on El Fuerte, although we have yet to find them.
This 16th century property Situated in the heart of the village and beautifully furnished with Moorish style furniture and wonderful Spanish paintings and artefacts of bygone years collected by the same family for more than fifty years whilst the house has been in their ownership. One of the few front-line houses with incredible 180-degree views of the Andalusian mountains and Mediterranean sea.
The wonderful village pool is but a few minutes walk.
Please note : There is a steep staircase and numerous steps up and down which some may find tricky although my 83 yr old Mother is fine ! The house may not be ideal for toddlers and they should not be left unattended on any of the terraces.
Please watch this video to confirm you are happy with the layout of the house, the interconnecting bedrooms etc.
